Wayne T. Hockmeyer, Ph.D., has been a director since our inception. Dr. Hockmeyer founded MedImmune, Inc. in April 1988 and served as president and chief executive officer from 1988 until October 2000. Dr. Hockmeyer was elected to serve on the board of directors of MedImmune in May 1988 and became chairman of the board of directors in May 1993. He currently continues to serve as the chairman of the board of directors of MedImmune and serves as president of MedImmune Ventures, Inc. From 1986 to 1988, Dr. Hockmeyer was vice president of research and development of Praxis Biologics. From 1980 to 1986, he was chairman of the Department of Immunology at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. From 1966 to 1986, he served as a commissioned officer in the United States Army. He is a member of the board of directors of Diversa Corporation, GenVec, Inc., InterMune Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Idenix Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and TolerRx Inc. Dr. Hockmeyer earned his bachelor's degree from Purdue University and his Ph.D. from the University of Florida in 1972. In 2002, Dr. Hockmeyer was awarded a doctor of science honoris causa from Purdue University. Dr. Hockmeyer currently serves as the chairman of our Compensation Committee and is also a member of both our Audit Committee and our Nominating & Governance Committee. |
