L. Wayne Hess, M.D., Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, is recognized as a national leader in the field of obstetrics and gynecology. Dr. Hess graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in chemical engineering and received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia. He completed his internship and residency at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Va. He also completed a fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine from Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Most recently, Dr. Hess chaired the Department of OB/GYN at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, Pa., and as Professor of OB/GYN at the Penn State College of Medicine, Hershey Medical Center. He also served as Chairman and Professor of OB/GYN for University of Missouri-Columbia Health Sciences Center. His extensive research in the field of OB/GYN includes the prevention of premature birth, fetal echocardiography, prenatal diagnosis and diabetes in pregnancy. Dr. Hess co-authored the textbook Fetal Echocardiography and is frequently published in medical journals. |
