Mr. Ward has worked in several areas of electronics and broadcasting for over forty years. His interest was kindled while still in high school and further expanded while serving several years in the United States Air Force. During this time he attended Air University and completed several disciplines in high power transmitters, microwave, radar, and computers. Upon his return to civilian life he owned and operated several electronics service companies including a Radio Shack, Magnavox dealership and E. F. Johnson and Regency communications centers. In 1976 he acquired his Federal Communications Commission General Class License and expanded his communications businesses. During this time he started working as engineer for several FM radio stations in the Midwest including KXXX, Colby, KS. He also built stations in Larned, KS and Woodward, OK. While in this area he was also contracted by the Federal Aviation Administration to maintain and align critical air navigation systems at airports throughout the Midwest. In 1982 Mr. Ward was contracted to build the first full power VHF low band television station, KLBY-TV in Colby, Kansas, where he remained as Chief Engineer for several years. It later became part of the Kansas State Network. He went on to work on many television construction and remodeling projects throughout the country and functioned as Chief Engineer for KDBC-TV, El Paso, TX and KOAM-TV, Pittsburg, KS/Joplin, MO. In 1989, while at KDBC-TV, he was introduced to, and later hired by, SJL Broadcast Management Corp. During his tenure with SJL he has worked on several large projects including building a completely new television facility in San Luis Obispo, CA and relocating the station. He served as Chief Engineer at KSBY for several years before assuming his current position with SJL. In this position, he oversees the technical operations at several stations including WICU-TV and WSEE-TV (LMA), Erie, PA, WTAJ-TV, Altoona, PA, WBNG-TV, Binghamton, NY, WENY-TV, Elmira, NY and WOWK-TV, Huntington, WV. Along with being active in the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, and the Society of Broadcast Engineers, Mr. Ward was instrumental in forming the Tri-State Electronics Association of Upstate New York where he served as president. In 1965, while still in the Air Force, he married his wife, Connie. They have three children, nine grandchildren, and two dogs. His interests include woodworking, flying model planes, music and camping. They enjoy traveling throughout the country in their motorhome while visiting stations and grandchildren. |
