As Vice President of Development, Walter Rebenson brings more than 23 years of real estate experience spanning all phases of real estate investment from due diligence, acquisition, design, construction and sales in the office, residential, hospitality and retail sectors. He has successfully completed zoning and development of residential projects totaling 3,000 acres in eight states. Total completed developments encompassed over $1.5 billion in developments across the nation.
Prior to joining AvalonBay Communities, Inc., Mr. Rebenson was the chief operating officer of the Fordham Company over the past 9 plus years and over this time the company completed six developments including 475 luxury condominiums, 600 townhouses, 95 single family lots and 200,000 square feet of retail representing over $600 million in new developments. The companies primary business has been high rise luxury condominiums in downtown Chicago with an average price of over $1.0 million dollars and a top end price of $15 million. Mr. Rebenson joined The Fordham Company in 1996 after spending more than six years as Vice President of Banyan Management Corp. While at Banyan, he oversaw design and development of more than 1 million square feet of office projects and was responsible for more that 20 projects encompassing 2,000 apartments, 600 condominiums, 300 town homes and 700 single-family homes. As part of Banyan’s disposition efforts, he transacted $50 million in property sales. Additionally, he helped create Banyan Management Corp. to oversee eight public REITS with a combined asset base of 75 properties totaling $850 million.
Mr. Rebenson earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting and finance from Marquette University. He is a member of the Chicago Real Estate Council, an associate member of the Urban Land Institute and former chairman of the Lemont Economic Development Council. Mr. Rebenson is also active in several charities. |
