Walead Esmail has developed an intellectual property practice that emphasizes IP litigation and especially trademark matters. He has represented several international clients, including Honda Motor Company, and has worked to both secure and protect his clients' IP rights.
Walead also has an active pro bono practice in which he has represented local artists and international arts organizations, including the African Arts Collaborative, in obtaining and defending their copyrights.
Before joining Foley Hoag, Walead interned at the Massachusetts Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, where he assisted several artists and organizations with copyright, trademark, and entertainment law issues. His work at the VLA included assisting artists in drafting IP agreements as well as resolving disputes over IP rights. Walead also has experience drafting legislation for the Massachusetts House of Representatives, including a current statute that improves the protection of artists' works consigned to galleries.
