Vincent A. Gierer, Jr. has served as non-executive chairman of the UST Inc. Board of Directors since January 2007 and also serves as a member of the Strategic Review Committee. Previously, Mr. Gierer served as chairman and chief executive officer of UST Inc. from 1993 until his retirement in December 2006, and was president of the Company from September 1990 to November 2005.
Prior to being elected president, Mr. Gierer held various positions of increasing responsibility in an accounting and finance capacity since joining the Company in 1978. Mr. Gierer has served as a member of the UST Board of Directors since 1986.
Before joining the Company, Mr. Gierer was associated with the accounting firm of Ernst & Ernst (now Ernst & Young LLP). He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Mr. Gierer holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting from Iona College, and he is also a Vietnam veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. |
