Dr. V. K. Chaudhary is currently Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Delhi South Campus, New Delhi, India. An accomplished researcher and inventor. Dr. Chaudhary led the development of a simple and rapid assay to detect HIV in small volume(single drop) of blood. This test kit is being manufactured and marketed as NEVA-HIV by M/s Cadila Pharmaceuticals. After completing his Ph. D. in Biochemistry from V .P. Chest Institute in 1983, Dr. Chaudhary worked at Escorts Medical Centre, Faridabad as Clinical Biochemist and then as a Visiting Fellow/Associate at the National Institutes of Health, USA for 5 years. At NIH, he developed technology for producing recombinant fusion proteins between toxins and growth factors and single chain antibodies to make magic bullet targeted to cancer and HIV-infected cells. He joined the South Campus in 1990.To his name, he has more than 75 research papers and has 15 Indian and US patents. The awards he has been honored with include the National Institutes of Health (NIH), USA Director's Award, Biotech Product and Process Development and Commercialization Award, Department of Biotechnology, Government of India and The NRDC Award. Recently, his group has developed a bacteriophage lambda based system for high-density display of peptide, proteins and antibodies. His current research activities include development of immunoproteomic based approaches (Phage display, protein assay) for simple diagnostic solutions for infectious diseases. |
