Dr. Vic S. Gladstone is Chief Staff Officer for Audiology at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). As Chief Staff Officer for Audiology, Dr. Gladstone is responsible for not only audiology activities but, ASHA's Credentialing, Standards, Accreditation, Ethics, and Academic Affairs areas. ASHA is the scientific, professional, and credentialing association serving the needs of over 108,000 certified audiologists, certified speech-language pathologists and speech, language, hearing scientists.
Dr. Gladstone was a full professor and Director of Audiology in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Towson University just north of Baltimore, MD where he had been on the faculty since January of 1970. He received his Bachelor of Science degree (1968) in Speech Pathology and Audiology and his Master of Science degree (1969) in Audiology from The Pennsylvania State University and his doctorate (1977) in Audiology from the University of Maryland. A charter member of the Towson Sertoma Club, Dr. Gladstone served as Vice-President during 1992-1993, president from 1993-1995 and Board Chair 1995-1996.
As Director of Audiology, Dr. Gladstone was instrumental in developing the Towson University Audiology Clinic including the Hearing Aid Dispensing Program and Assistive Devices Center. The quality of services provided by the Audiology Program has been recognized by the University of Maryland, School of Social Work and Community Planning, Center for the Graduate Social Work Education of the Hearing Impaired; the State of Maryland, Department of Health & Mental Hygiene's Children's Medical Services (CMS) Program and Medical Assistance Program; and the State of Maryland, Department of Education, Vocational Rehabilitation Program.
Dr. Gladstone is a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and represented Maryland on the ASHA Legislative Council (the association's policy-making body) from 1977 through 1992. He served as a member of the Long Range Planning Committee, Long Range Strategic Planning Board, Committee on Financial Planning, Financial Planning Board and Council on Professional Ethics. As the Vice President for Administration and Planning (1993-1995), he was intimately involved in the implementation and monitoring of the association's Long Range Strategic Plan as well as the annual review and development of the ASHA budget and monitoring of the association's financial status. He has also worked closely with the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Multicultural Issues Board.
Dr. Gladstone has been a member of the Maryland Speech-Language-Hearing Association (MSHA) since 1970; is a Fellow of the Maryland Speech-Language-Hearing Association and a recipient of the Association's Honors; and has served MSHA in a variety of capacities. He served as the Audiologist member of the Maryland Board of Examiners for Hearing Aid Dealers; was a member of the Governor's Task Force on the Early Identification and Follow-up of Infant Hearing Impairment and currently serves as a member of the Infant Hearing Impairment Advisory Council which developed and oversees the State's Program to Identify Infants with Hearing Impairment; and served as a member of the Maryland State Department of Education Committee on Assistive Devices in Public Schools.
Dr. Gladstone maintained a private practice that focused on the areas of pediatric, industrial and forensic audiology. In addition, he served as the Audiology Consultant to the Maryland State Department of Health & Mental Hygiene's Medical Assistance Hearing Aid Program and Audiology Consultant to the Children's Medical Services (CMS) Program for over twenty years. As CMS Audiology Consultant, Dr. Gladstone was instrumental in establishing and providing audiology services in local health department clinics throughout rural Maryland's Eastern Shore and Western Maryland. |
