Vern Paxson is a senior scientist with the International Computer Science Institute (ICSI) Center for Internet Research, a non-profit research institute located in Berkeley, California. He is also a staff computer scientist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), where his research focuses on network intrusion detection systems (NIDS), Internet attacks, and Internet measurement. Much of Mr. Paxson's security research is done in the context of Bro, a high-performance, open-source NIDS he developed for LBNL for 24 x 7 operational use. Vern also serves as the chair of the Internet Research Task Force (IRTF) and is involved in a number of other Internet research and standardization efforts. Vern holds an M.S. and a Ph.D in computer science from the University of California at Berkeley. |
