Vanessa B. M. Vergara is an associate in the firm's Litigation Group. Her experience in commercial litigation includes representing a variety of clients in matters such as multidistrict litigation, lender liability suits, securities fraud, breach of contract, Internet and technology litigation, breach of fiduciary duty, consumer fraud, arbitration law and insurance coverage actions. During law school, Ms. Vergara served as managing editor of the Northwestern University Law Review. She was also awarded the Virgil Day Scholarship and was distinguished as a Woman's Bar Foundation of Illinois Scholar. Ms. Vergara has authored three published works: "Looking Beneath the Surface: Illinois' Response to Human Trafficking and Modern-Day Slavery," 38 University of Toledo Law Review 991 (2007); "Abusive Mail-Order Bride Marriage and the Thirteenth Amendment," 94 Northwestern University Law Review 1547 (2000); and, "An Assessment of U.S. Veterans Benefits for Filipino WWII Veterans," Volume 7 Harvard Asian American Policy Review 163 (1997). In October 2005, Ms. Vergara was the recipient of Hamline University's First Decade Award which recognizes outstanding personal and professional achievement of a Hamline University alumna within ten years of graduation. Ms. Vergara was also featured in the book "One Hundred and Fifty Lives That Make a Difference," published in connection with Hamline University's sesquicentennial celebration in 2004. In June 2003, Ms. Vergara was the recipient of the Filipinas Magazine Youth Leadership Award. In November 2002, PoliticalCircus.com named Ms. Vergara one of the "Top Thirty Under Thirty Most Influential Asian Americans" for her work in the Filipino-American community. She currently serves as an officer in the Filipino American Bar Association and is co-chair of the Chicago chapter of the Filipino Civil Rights Advocates.
Ms. Vergara was elected to membership in Phi Beta Kappa and is a former law clerk to the Honorable Karen Nelson Moore of the U.S. Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit.
