Dr. deGrauw presently serves as the director of the neurology program and the training program in child neurology at Children's Hospital Medical Center of Cincinnati. A seasoned clinician in the fields of neurodegenerative and neuro-metabolic disorders, he is currently co-leading the Avicena Group's creatine transporter defect (CTD) pilot study. The trial is designed to assess the ability of creatine supplementation to restore normal levels of creatine in the central nervous system and improve cognition amongst patients with CTD.
Dr. deGrauw's clinical focus is in the area of neuro-developmental deficits as well as neurodegenerative and neuro-metabolic disorders. In addition, Dr. deGrauw is highly regarded for his expertise in energy metabolism disorders and neurological aspects of language development. As such, he has served as a local principal investigator or co-investigator of several clinical trials sponsored by the NIH in the area of childhood epilepsy.
Widely respected within the industry for his expertise and seniority, Dr. deGrauw is an active participant in a number of associations including the American Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine, American Medical Association, American Academy of Neurology, Child Neurology Society (USA), the Dutch Pediatric Neurology Association, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the United Leukodystrophy Foundation. He also served as co-organizer of the 6th International Guanidino compound meeting, held at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.
Dr. deGrauw received an M.D. from Katholieke Universiteit (K.U.), Nijmegen, Netherlands and completed his residency in pediatrics at St. Radboud Hospital, Netherlands. Dr. deGrauw has held fellowship positions in the department of neurology at the University Hospital in Cincinnati, and the department of pediatrics and neurology at Children's Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati. He has also served as research associate in neonatal neurology at Children's Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati and is certified in pediatrics and neurology. |
