Tommy Thompson is President of LHI. As former Health and Human Services Secretary, Gov. Thompson was the nation's leading advocate for the health and welfare of all Americans. He was the 19th individual to serve as Secretary of the department, which employed more than 60,000 personnel and had a fiscal year 2001 budget of $429 billion.
Gov. Thompson has dedicated much of his professional life to public service, and prior to 2001, had served as Governor of Wisconsin since 1987. During his 14 years as governor, he focused on revitalizing Wisconsin's economy. He also gained national attention for his leadership on welfare reform, expanded access to health care for low-income people, and education.
Gov. Thompson holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
