Tom Gibbons is corporate vice president of the Consumer Productivity eXperiences Group at Microsoft. Gibbons oversees the worldwide development and business strategy for Microsoft’s line of consumer hardware, software and Macintosh products. This includes Microsoft® Student, Microsoft Encarta® products, Microsoft Digital Image Suite, Microsoft Streets & Trips, Microsoft Money, the Office for Macintosh product line, the Virtual PC product line, and Microsoft mice and keyboards. In addition, he is responsible for localization for Microsoft’s retail business, and serves on the Entertainment & Devices Division Executive Team.
During his more than 13-year tenure at Microsoft, Gibbons has held a number of management positions including general manager of Microsoft’s Hardware Group, where he led a multidisciplinary team of more than 200 technologists, ergonomists, industrial designers and engineers. Gibbons was responsible for driving the business strategy and product development for the division, including designing and distributing innovative hardware devices such as the first-ever scroll wheel, the Tilt Wheel, and wireless optical mice and keyboards as well as contributing to Microsoft’s forays into new technology markets, such as home networking gear and fingerprint readers. In the past year, he also oversaw the products and strategy for Microsoft’s Xbox® peripherals business.
Before joining Microsoft, Gibbons lived in Osaka, Japan, teaching English. He has a bachelor of arts degree in international relations and German from Bowdoin College. He lives in Seattle with his wife and twin sons. |
