Todd Hales is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery based in the Orange County office. He is a member of the Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department. His practice involves all aspects of intellectual property law with a focus on patent prosecution and strategic intellectual property portfolio management and counseling.
Todd’s experience includes foreign and domestic patent prosecution, investor due diligence, portfolio and landscape evaluations, licensing matters, pre-litigation analysis, and rendering opinions concerning patentability of inventions and infringement and validity of patents. He has represented companies in a wide range of technologies, including life sciences and medical device corporations having technologies in ophthalmology, cardiology, urology, gastroenterology, neurology, pulmonology, radiology and otolaryngology. His experience also includes aerodynamics and aerospace, mechanical and electro-mechanical devices and systems, fluid mechanics and dynamics, physics, and optics.
Todd earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with a minor in physics from Brigham Young University. He earned his J.D. from Brigham Young University where he served as executive editor of the BYU Law Review.
Todd is admitted to the California State Bar.
