Tim Atkin is responsible for developing and managing all of SRA’s civil government business. Clients include the Departments of Energy, Health and Human Services, Interior, Justice, Labor, and Veterans Affairs; U. S. Agency for International Development; Environmental Protection Agency; Federal Aviation Administration; Government Accountability Office; Internal Revenue Service; National Archives and Records Administration; U.S. Mint; Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts; Small Business Administration; Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation; and the Office of Personnel Management. SRA's Civil Sector provides management consulting, program management, and information technology solutions to assist clients in achieving their missions.
Atkin previously served as Deputy Director of the Civil Sector, and has also managed SRA’s homeland security and critical infrastructure protection programs encompassing emergency preparedness, continuity of government and continuity of operations, strategic and program policy planning, risk and vulnerability assessments, and information assurance.
Before joining SRA in 1999, Atkin was a member of the U.S. Government's senior executive service and served as chief of staff to the deputy secretary of the Department of Labor. He was also a director at the National Security Council. His national security program experience focused on national level policy development in counter-drug efforts, crisis management, and international organized crime. Atkin also served with the U.S Coast Guard, commanding two cutters and earning the Coast Guard Meritorious Service Medal, Commendation Medal, and Achievement Medal. He has been a guest lecturer at the Army War College and National Defense University (Information Resources Management College). He has also participated in the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff national level exercises.
Atkin has been active in several industry associations: ITAA's Information Security Committee, the Partnership for Critical Infrastructure Security (PCIS) Working Group on Information Sharing, and the IT Industry Information Sharing and Analysis Center (ISAC) planning committee. In 2002, Federal Computer Week selected Atkin to the Federal 100.
