Tim Solso was elected to Ball Corporation's board of directors in January 2003. He is chairman and chief executive officer of Cummins Inc.
Mr. Solso has been with Cummins since 1971 and has been chairman and CEO of the Columbus, Ind., manufacturer of electrical power generation systems, engines and related technologies since the beginning of 2000.
Mr. Solso began his career with Cummins as assistant to the vice president-personnel and was named employment director in 1972. He also served as director-development and training from 1974 to 1977 and executive director-personnel from 1977 to 1980. From 1980 to 1992 he held the positions of vice president and general manager-Holset; vice president-special engine markets; vice president-marketing and vice president and general manager-engine business.
In 1992, he became executive vice president-operations and was first elected to the Cummins board in 1994 when he was named executive vice president and chief operating officer.
Mr. Solso serves on the boards of Ashland Inc.; Irwin Financial Corporation; Cummins Foundation; Heritage Fund of Bartholomew County; and the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership.
In addition, he is on the board of trustees for DePauw University; chairman of the United Way Campaign-Bartholomew County; and is a past board member of Cyprus AMAX Minerals, Inc. and Amoco Corporation.
Born on March 5, 1947, Mr. Solso earned his bachelor's degree at DePauw University in 1969 and his MBA from Harvard University in 1971. |
