Dr. Tim McAfee was the Executive Medical Director of Free & Clear, operating within Group Health Cooperative, from 1998 until Free & Clear, Inc. was incorporated in late 2003. Under his leadership, Free & Clear grew from a small telephone counseling service for smokers into an award-winning, nationally-recognized business with 200 employees and a diverse customer base including employers, healthcare systems, and government agencies. In 1996, Dr. McAfee became the first non-governmental healthcare leader to complete the CDC/UC California Public Health Leadership Institute Scholars Program. He is a member of the American College of Physician Executives. He obtained his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco, and master's degrees in health policy and epidemiology from the University of California, Berkeley. He completed a fellowship through the University of Washington School of Medicine, and is an adjunct faculty member in the School of Public Health. He was a practicing family physician for over a decade, and continues to treat tobacco-dependent patients. As a national leader in tobacco control, Dr. McAfee is a sought-after keynote speaker, adviser and consultant for healthcare and academic institutions, government agencies, and employers. He has extensive research experience and currently serves as investigator and site Principal Investigator on multiple large National Cancer Institute and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation studies. Dr. McAfee brings scientific discipline and clinical expertise to the role of Chief Medical Officer. In addition, his experience in product and partnership development and marketing all contribute to this key leadership position at Free & Clear. |
