During the last twenty years, he has advised on a number of prominent corporate deals in the UK. His experience of public takeovers includes advising a variety of clients on takeover offers for BAA plc, Marks & Spencer plc, ITV plc, Abbott Group plc, the London Stock Exchange plc (first by Deutsche Boerse and later by Macquarie), Chelsfield plc, Blue Circle plc, BET plc, Lasmo plc, Manchester United plc, P&O Ports plc, Albright & Wilson plc, Courtaulds plc, Lloyds Chemists plc, Gordon Russell plc, Bridgewell plc, Mysis plc and Freeserve plc. Tim's merger and reconstruction experience includes the mergers of Thomas Cook and MyTravel, of Anglo American with Minorco and of British Steel with Hoogovens, as well as the reconstructions of Lloyd's of London, Energis plc, and Concordia Bus AB. His private M&A experience includes the sale by Bass plc of Bass Brewers, the sale by United Business Media of SDN to ITV, the sale of Lloyd's of London Press by Lloyds, the sale by Rank of Rank-Xerox, the sale by ADT of British Car Auctions, the sale of P&O European Transport to Wincanton, the purchase by UBS of GAM, the purchase by Macquarie of the Stagecoach Red London Bus Business and Goldman Sachs' acquisition of interests in Barrie & Hibbert and in Prčt ŕ Manger. Tim's capital markets experience includes the IPOs of Orange, British Steel, Railtrack, HMV, Thomson Travel, SGB and the UK Water Industry as well as major equity offerings for Kingfisher plc, HBOS plc and Liberty International plc. Other recent commercial assignments include advising Luqman Arnold's Olivant Ltd on its proposal to run the distressed Northern Rock, advising the Formula One motor racing teams of McLaren, Renault, Toyota, Honda and BMW on their racing agreements with Formula One Group and advising Sainsbury Family interests in relation to possible takeover offers for J Sainsbury plc. Tim has also been a regular adviser to investment banks and funds (including Goldman Sachs, Oaktree Capital, UBS, Dresdner Bank, Macquarie Bank, Gleacher Shacklock, Cerberus and Citadel) on a variety of matters including issues affecting stakebuilding and derivatives. He has also advised the Takeover Panel on numerous occasions in relation to public M&A situations and on changes to the Takeover Code.
