Head of Corporate Affairs Member of the Executive Committee of Novartis Thomas Wellauer is Head of Corporate Affairs for Novartis, comprising the functions of Corporate Intellectual Property, Global Public Affairs, Corporate Health, Safety, Environment and Business Continuity Management, Global Quality Operations, Group Purchasing, Corporate Risk Management, Corporate Integrity and Compliance, Corporate
Security, International Coordination, Novartis Switzerland and the Novartis Foundation for Sustainable Development. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of Novartis. Thomas Wellauer started his professional career with McKinsey & Company, where he worked for 12 years and specialized in the financial services, pharmaceutical and chemical industry sectors. Over this period, he worked in McKinsey offices in Zurich, Tokyo and New York. He was elected partner in 1991 and senior partner in 1996. In 1997, Thomas Wellauer became CEO of the Winterthur Insurance Group, which later was acquired by Credit Suisse. At Credit Suisse he was a member of the Group Executive Board, initially responsible for the group’s insurance business before becoming CEO of the Financial Services division. Most recently before joining Novartis in 2006, he led the Clariant Performance Improvement Program, a global turnaround project at the specialty chemicals maker. He holds a Ph.D. in Systems Engineering and a Master in Chemical Engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Zurich. |
