Dr. Thomas Strat is Senior Vice President and Director of SET’s Image and Video Understanding Division. Tom joined SET from DARPA’s Information Exploitation Office, where he served as Program Manager for VIVID, which is concerned with automated analysis of airborne video to support precision strike operations; Combat Zones That See, which automates the analysis of video from a large network of ground-based cameras to track individual vehicles across an urban battlefield, and UrbanScape, which provides automated capture and holographic display of 3D models of urban areas. Tom also served as Deputy Director of DARPA’s Grand Challenge for Autonomous Ground Vehicles. Prior to joining DARPA, Tom was co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of ObjectVideo, Inc., a leading supplier of intelligent video surveillance systems. Tom spent 13 years as a research scientist and project leader at the SRI Artificial Intelligence Center, where he designed and implemented computer vision, robotic, and evidential reasoning systems. Tom has published more than 100 scientific papers and has authored or edited several books on computer vision. He received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from M.I.T., and the Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford University. |
