Dr. Demaria, a clinical psychologist, is the recipient of numerous awards and honors for his work in the areas of stress, trauma and interpersonal effectiveness, Dr. Demaria’s groundbreaking work has resulted in such innovative programs as SIBSPlace, Home Ground and the World Trade Center Family Center, which has counseled 1,500 bereaved family members since 9/11. Dr. Demaria is very active in community and professional education/research and is the founder of the Hospital’s Behavioral Health Learning Institute. He has provided counseling in over 250 local and regional disasters and is a team leader for the Nassau County Department of Mental Health Critical Incident Response Team and a responder for Mental Health Disaster Team of the Nassau County and Greater New York Chapters of the American Red Cross.
