Tom Bennett is a managing director in FTI’s Corporate Finance practice and is based in New York. Mr. Bennett specializes in providing financial restructuring advisory services to lenders and debtors in troubled situations. His assignments have included strategic planning, cash management, business plan analysis and monitoring, covenant negotiation, collateral evaluation, liquidation analysis, cost reduction, and recapitalization.
Mr. Bennett recently assisted in the restructuring of several large companies, including a $1 billion specialty retailer with locations across the U.S., a $1 billion manufacturer of telecommunications equipment, a $1 billion steel processor, a large real estate developer and a major sports and entertainment complex. He has operating experience in turnaround situations in the insurance and financial services industry.
Prior to joining FTI in 2000, Mr. Bennett was vice president of finance at American Express. During his nine years there, he held various senior financial positions in the company’s Corporate Services and Small Business Services divisions, focusing on financial analysis, business analysis and profit improvement. In 1998, he received the chief financial officer’s Award for Excellence, one of only three awarded, for restructuring the company’s customer pricing process while improving cycle times, eliminating costs and improving customer satisfaction. While at American Express, he gained extensive restructuring, acquisition and integration experience through his involvement in numerous acquisitions, business consolidations and dispositions.
Prior to joining American Express, Mr. Bennett worked at GE Capital, where he helped start the company’s corporate payments business. He recruited and managed the group’s sales force, planned and executed the initial marketing plans and developed the strategic plan for the business.
Mr. Bennett began his career in Arthur Andersen & Company’s audit practice where he focused on the leasing, financial services and real estate industries. After four years, he moved to Ernst & Young, LLP, where he simultaneously served as a manager in the Audit and Entrepreneurial Services practices. His audit clients included large financial services, insurance and real estate clients. As an entrepreneurial services manager, his clients included numerous start-up companies which he helped through the business planning and financing processes.
Mr. Bennett holds a B.S. in accounting from the M.B.A. Honors Program at Indiana University. He is a certified public accountant and certified turnaround professional. |
