Tom's career as a human resources practitioner, executive consultant, and business leader covers more than 25 years. Recently retired from Hewitt Associates, where he was a principal and owner, Tom brings the experience of having been a client, serving clients, and leading others in developing business solutions involving people.
Early in his career, Tom was responsible for virtually all aspects of HR while working for three companies in three different industries. This culminated in the Chief HR executive role for a corporate financial services sector leader.
In 1983 Tom joined Hewitt Associates as a consultant affiliated with the compensation practice. Over the years, Tom co-founded, staffed, and grew Hewitt's Sales Compensation Consulting group. This team worked with the sales and HR leadership of Hewitt's clients, focusing initially on incentive plan design and other compensation matters; ultimately the group became Hewitt's Sales Force Effectiveness Practice. During the late 1990's, Tom assumed a new role in Hewitt's Global Compensation practice, where he oversaw various aspects of practice development and was also a prime mover in the design and rollout of Hewitt's Talent Solutions Offers. He also took on responsibility for some alliance relationships with Hewitt's strategic partners, most notable with William Bridges and Associates, specialists in transition management.
In his final Hewitt role, Tom assumed practice leadership for the firm's IT Effectiveness Practice. This virtual consulting team was made up of dozens of consultants having expertise, insights, and experience regarding the special HR challenges of information technology professionals. A broad range of proprietary consulting materials and tools were created, linked into Hewitt's regional consulting centers, and marketed to IT leaders in Hewitt client firms.
Tom has been published in several business periodicals and contributed to two texts on compensation design and theory. He was on the faculty of the ACA (American Compensation Association), teaching sales force compensation for several years.
