Thom Miller joined City National in 2000. As director of Marketing, he is responsible for all marketing, communication and brand development programs at the bank. He is a member of the bank’s Executive Committee and reports to Chief Executive Officer Russell Goldsmith.
With more than 30 years in the marketing and advertising industries, Mr. Miller has broad-based experience ranging from product branding and strategic development to political marketing and executive-level corporate management.
Immediately prior to joining City National Bank, he was executive vice president and general manager of the Los Angeles office of FCB Worldwide. Before joining FCB, he was president of Ketchum Advertising/New York, a member of the board of directors of Ketchum Communications, Inc., and chairman of the New York Council of the American Association of Advertising Agencies.
Mr. Miller has used his strategic skills to position products and services for a number of the world’s premier brands, including companies like Procter & Gamble, Mattel, RJR Nabisco, The Pillsbury Company, Sunkist and Universal Studios. In 1992, he was recruited to work for The November Company, an elite group of senior advertising executives that was assembled to develop the re-election advertising campaign of former President George H. W. Bush.
Mr. Miller earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Michigan State University.
He is active in community and civic affairs, serving as chairman and president of the Los Angeles Library Foundation and also on the board of the California State Library Foundation. In addition, he is vice president of development and a member of the board of directors of the Los Angeles Conservancy.
