Tom Basinger is a vice president of Cable One and head of the Central Division. He is based at the cable division's headquarters in Phoenix, AZ, and is responsible for 17 cable television systems serving approximately 35 communities and 200,000 customers in Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, and Missouri.
Basinger began his career in the cable industry in 1981 as director of marketing for Cablecom-General, the company that eventually became Cable One. He became the company's director of finance, and then moved from Denver to Detroit as vice president of financial planning and analysis when the company was acquired by Capital Cities Cable.
He became a division head for Capital Cities Cable in 1984 and has continued in that role through the years of ownership by The Washington Post Company. As a division head, he is responsible for everything that goes on in his systems, ranging from personnel to financial performance to marketing to capital expenditures to franchise relationships. Basinger also screens and evaluates acquisition and trade opportunities for Cable One, including forecasting of financial results, capital needs, and calculations of value.
Before joining the cable business, Basinger was director of business planning for the Denver Research Institute, the research and consulting arm of the University of Denver.
Basinger is a native of Colorado and holds a BA in economics from Colorado College, an MBA in finance from the University of Chicago Business School, and an MsC in marketing from the London Graduate School of Business Studies.
