Tom Griffin concentrates his practice on environmental law and litigation. Mr. Griffin handles a wide range of environmental matters, including:
Defense and prosecution of environmental matters in federal and state court, including groundwater claims, toxic torts, class actions and Superfund litigation
Brownfields property acquisitions and site development
Wetlands permitting and related matters, including authorization for activities and structures in navigable waters, endangered species considerations and issues arising under the National Environmental Policy Act
Environmental permitting issues, such as those related to wastewater discharges, storm water and hazardous waste
General environmental compliance requirements
Investigation and remediation of contamination under federal and state programs
Representation of potentially responsible parties in Superfund matters
Environmental audits
Environmental aspects of business transactions, including document negotiation and due diligence reviews from both the buyer's and seller's perspective in mergers, acquisitions, real estate sales and leases
In addition to general environmental work, Mr. Griffin represents and defends environmental engineers and consulting groups with respect to professional obligations and claims arising out of their work.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Griffin was an honors attorney in the environmental section of the Office of the Chief Counsel of the United States Army Corps of Engineers in Washington, DC. In the Corps, he concentrated primarily on wetlands permitting and policy issues, and also had responsibility for matters concerning solid and hazardous materials, the National Environmental Policy Act, endangered species and navigable waters.
