Tom practices primarily in the areas of: Commercial litigation Public law Business counseling Mediated dispute resolution Environmental litigation Before rejoining Lindquist & Vennum in 1999, Tom was deputy mayor of St. Paul and chief of staff for Mayor Norm Coleman. For 10 years prior to his service as deputy mayor, Tom worked in Lindquist & Vennum's Litigation Section, where he served as lead counsel in numerous lawsuits and administrative proceedings including: A $20 million bond default claim against five Minnesota counties An $8.5 million claim by the RTC against former officers and directors of a savings and loan Several constitutional challenges to Minnesota's state education finance system and other legislative enactments. Tom has helped clients recently in municipal negotiations involving contracts, land use permits, environmental issues and applications for financial assistance. Tom spent 16 years with the Minnesota Attorney General's office before joining Lindquist & Vennum. During this tenure, he spent several years as the state's chief prosecutor and supervisor of all public protection functions including consumer protection and antitrust enforcement. Tom has served as adjunct faculty at William Mitchell College of Law (Advanced Trial Advocacy) and for the Bemidji Trial Advocacy course for prosecutors and public defenders. He is a frequent lecturer at Continuing Legal Education courses. |
