Thomas F. Ellis, III is a Principal focused on U.S. real estate opportunities. He is responsible for leading investment teams in both Chicago and Dallas. He brings over 30 years of investment and asset management experience to Carlyle. He is based in Washington, DC.
Prior to joining Carlyle, Mr. Ellis was with Crescent Real Estate Equities, a $5 billion plus multi-product REIT. During his tenure at Crescent, he was responsible for identifying, structuring and closing over $900 million of commercial real estate transactions. From 1989 through 1996, Mr. Ellis was an independent consultant engaged by financial institutions, corporations and investor groups to provide senior management expertise to identify critical issues confronting them and to develop and implement strategic solutions and systems that addressed their respective needs within limited time and capital parameters. He managed and directed in excess of $2.4 billion of commercial real estate assets and commercial loans for clients such as San Jacinto Savings Association, New Hampshire Savings Bank, New England Financial Services and Dime Savings Bank of Wallingford. Prior to his consultancy practice, Mr. Ellis was a partner in a Houston, TX based investment real estate firm that specialized in the development and management of office buildings, medical facilities, retail centers and industrial properties in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, New Mexico, Tennessee, and Texas.
