Tom serves as co-chairman of Calfee, focusing on developing client relationships, as well as pursuing new business and market opportunities. In addition, he serves as chair of the firm’s Government Relations group and maintains an active practice of counseling clients in government relations, general corporate and public law. Practicing general corporate law allows Tom to counsel privately-held clients on matters of corporate structuring, governance and compliance, and mergers and acquisitions. He works with clients’ shareholders, members and boards of directors on succession planning and liquidity options. Tom negotiates mergers, acquisitions and divestitures and handles diverse stages and forms of business financing. In addition, Tom provides experienced counseling in government relations and public law. He represents clients before administrative branches of government; works closely with clients to develop governmental strategies on issues affecting their businesses; and counsels a variety of governmental entities on matters of public policy and law. He also advises corporate and public utility clients on relevant regulatory matters. Active outside of the firm as well, Tom is on the board of trustees of The Cleveland Playhouse Square Foundation, The Medical Mutual of Ohio Charitable Foundation and University School. He is a member of Leadership Cleveland and the Ohio State and Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Associations. Tom has served on boards of directors for several privately held enterprises as well. He also was named in the 2005-2006 edition of The Best Lawyers in America. Tom served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1970. He began his tenure with Calfee in 1973, and from 1979 to 1981 served as law director and chief administrative officer for the City of Cleveland. Tom currently serves on the firm’s executive and management committees and was elected co-chairman of the firm in 2005. |
