Thomas D. Gardner is Executive Vice President and President, RD International. Since 2003 he has been responsible for all of RDA’s business outside of the United States and Canada. During his tenure, the international division has enjoyed strong operating profit growth and has launched businesses in the international markets. In 2006 he also assumed responsibility for the company’s Books Are Fun unit. He was previously Senior Vice President and President, North America Books and Home Entertainment. In addition, he had responsibility for Global Marketing, including promotion, database marketing, new channel development and market research.
Gardner joined Reader's Digest in 1992 as Director, Corporate Planning and helped develop the children's business, as well as Condensed Books (now Select Editions), catalog and continuous mail businesses. He was Vice President of U.S. Marketing from November 1995 to June 1998.
He has also been Senior Vice President, U.S. New Business Development and was responsible for developing new businesses consistent with RDA's growth strategy, including financial services, health products and services, merchandise catalogs and Web sites, among others.
Prior to joining Reader's Digest, he worked for McKinsey & Co. from 1989 to 1992, and for General Foods from 1983 to 1989. From 1979 to 1981, he was with Yankelovich, Skelly & White.
Gardner received a bachelor's degree from Williams College in 1979 and his M.B.A. degree from Stanford University in 1983. He and his wife, Wendy, live in Bedford, N.Y. and have 2 children. |
