Tom Wold was born in Rugby, North Dakota, and educated at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks (J.D. 1962). The Wold family has a long history of civil and community involvement. Tom has served as a member of the North Dakota Legislature, a member of the Board of Directors of the Fargo Chamber of Commerce, and in community projects ranging from the Fargo Dome Steering Committee to the development of the Fargo Zoo. He has been a Trustee of the Church of Nativity and the Fargo-Moorhead Area Foundation. He has served as a lawyer for developers of significant real estate developments including hotels, shopping centers, apartments, and housing.
