As principal and chief operating officer, Tom Klugherz is responsible for the day-to-day operations of MacFarlane Partners’ urban real estate group and its investment programs. He directly oversees the urban group’s portfolio management, asset management and construction services functions, and also has significant input in the underwriting of prospective investments. Tom has 21 years of experience in institutional real estate investment and management, and has worked in a broad range of capacities as a fiduciary on behalf of some of the largest pension plans in the United States. He has a long history with MacFarlane Partners, having served with the firm when it focused on core real estate assets in the 1980s and 1990s.More recently, Tom was managing director of BlackRock Realty, an institutional real estate management firm, where he led corporate strategic initiatives and served on both the management and investment committees. He earlier was senior director of investor strategy with BlackRock’s predecessor firm, SSR Realty Advisors, working directly with existing and prospective clients to analyze their portfolios and formulate investment strategies. He also served as director of asset management for the firm’s core separate-account clients and supervised a national team responsible for more than $2 billion in real estate assets.Prior to his tenure with BlackRock/SSR, Tom was executive vice president and chief operating officer for GE Capital Investment Advisors, the successor entity to MacFarlane Partners.
