Thomas C. Gilliland is Executive Vice President, Secretary and General Counsel for United Community Banks, Inc. He has been with the company since 1992 and serves on the Asset Liability Management Committee, the Management Credit and Policy Committee and as Co-Chairman of the Risk Management Committee.
Prior to joining United Community Banks, Gilliland was a partner at Hurt, Richardson, Garner, Todd and Cadenhead in Atlanta, where he represented a number of financial institutions, specializing in commercial loan transactions.
Gilliland is a director of several banks including Ellijay, McCaysville, Blue Ridge and Carrollton, Georgia and serves as Chairman of the Board of United Community Bank, North Georgia. He also serves on the board of various local civic organizations, as well as the Georgia Affordable Housing Corporation, the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and the Stone Mountain Authority, where he serves as Chairman of the Development Committee.
Gilliland earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia and a Juris Doctor from Emory University.
