Thomas C. Berg, Jr., CFA, is a Senior Vice President of FMV Opinions, Inc. in the San Francisco and Los Angeles offices, and leads the firm's financial services valuation practice. Mr. Berg has nearly a decade of valuation experience including two years as a Wall Street investment bank securities analyst covering the financial services industry. In addition to financial services, Mr. Berg's broad business valuation experience spans retailing, distribution, technology, telecommunications, internet, insurance, sub prime lending, transportation and logistics, oil and gas, chemicals, restaurant chains, construction, engineering, professional services and general manufacturing.
Mr. Berg has worked on numerous valuations and transactions involving a wide variety of asset types. He has completed valuations for mergers and acquisitions, estate and gift tax, corporate income tax, financial accounting standards, stock option plans, ESOPs, and litigation support. In addition, Mr. Berg has provided research support to over a dozen initial and secondary public offerings.
Prior to joining FMV Opinions, Mr. Berg was a securities analyst for JMP Securities where his two-person research team was selected by The Wall Street Journal as the number one Wall Street research group in the real estate sector (comprising mortgage origination, mortgage investment, auto finance, consumer finance, commercial real estate finance and business development). Prior to working with JMP Securities, Mr. Berg was a senior analyst at Bernstein, Phalon & Conklin, a regional business valuation firm in Dallas, Texas. Mr. Berg also served as an analyst with Arthur Andersen's Valuation Services and Corporate Finance Group in Houston, Texas.
Mr. Berg earned the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, issued by the Association for Investment Management & Research (AIMR). He has also completed all four valuation accreditation courses taught by the American Society of Appraisers (ASA) and is a candidate member of the ASA. Mr. Berg is a member of the Security Analysts of San Francisco and AIMR. Mr. Berg received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance from Southern Methodist University.
