Thomas A. Pliskin

Mr. Pliskin devotes his practice to taxation, real estate and trusts and estates matters.
Mr. Pliskin counsels clients in connection with the planning and structuring of entities such as limited partnerships, family partnerships, limited liability companies and subchapter S corporations.
He prepares formal legal opinions for publicly traded companies pertaining to debt swaps and merger transactions; these opinions are included in prospectuses filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Mr. Pliskin authors legal opinions regarding other merger transactions including partnerships merging into corporations and split offs. He has also given opinions on the tax-free qualification of bonds issued by the New Jersey Economic Development Authority and the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority. Mr. Pliskin has written articles regarding partnership taxation published in national publications including the Journal of Partnership Taxation.
In the area of estate planning, Mr. Pliskin drafts wills, trust agreements and other documents affecting asset transfer and valuation. He is also responsible for the administration and litigation of a variety of estates. Mr. Pliskin also handled New Jersey's first published case interpreting the elective share statute.
In addition, Mr. Pliskin prepares and negotiates contracts and other legal instruments for real estate transactions, including the acquisition and development of real property. He has negotiated commercial leases with corporations such as United Parcel Service, Frito-Lay, Panasonic and Hitachi. He is also involved in the negotiation, preparation and closing of mortgage transactions on real property including major office complexes such as Princeton Forrestal Center and industrial buildings such as a 1,000,000 square foot building leased to the New York Times.

Other Professional and Personal Information
Mr. Pliskin served as an officer in the United States Army in 1967-1968 and in 1969 was a Deputy Attorney General for the State of New Jersey. Between 1996 and 2000, Mr. Pliskin was a member of the Monmouth County Fee Arbitration Committee, arbitrating fee disputes between clients and lawyers.
