Dr. Whiteside received both MA and Ph.D. degrees from Columbia University, was a post-doctoral fellow at New York University School of Medicine and was a Special Fellow at the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University. She became a diplomate of the American Board of Medical Immunology in 1979, and was subsequently appointed Director of the Immunologic Monitoring and Diagnostic Laboratory at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Whiteside is a recognized expert in immune monitoring of patients with cancer. She has authored 420 peer-reviewed publications and 105 chapters and review articles. She is the author of a book on human tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes and co-editor of several scientific books. Dr. Whiteside has been active in national professional organizations, including AACR, President of the Association of Medical Laboratory Immunologists (AMLI) (1991-1992); ASM Div. V: Clin Diag Immunol, Chair (1995). She is a member of the Board of Scientific Counselors for NIDCR (2002-present), and is a member of several editorial boards, including Cellular Immunology, Clinical Immunology Immunopathology, Cancer Immunology Immunotherapy, Clinical Cancer Research, Oral Oncology, Cancer-Therapy, Current Cancer Therapy Reviews and Oncology. |
