Terrance G. McGuire has served as a director of deCODE since August 1996. He currently serves on three board committees: the Compensation Commitee as its Chairman and on the Audit and Nominating and Corporate Governance Committees.
Since March 1996, he has been a co-founder and managing general partner of Polaris Venture Partners. Prior to starting Polaris, Mr. McGuire spent seven years at Burr, Egan, Deleage & Co. investing in early stage medical and information technology companies. Mr. McGuire began his career in venture capital at Golder, Thoma and Cressey in Chicago.
Mr. McGuire has co-founded three companies: Inspire Pharmaceuticals, AIR (Advanced Inhalation Research, Inc.), and MicroCHIPS. Mr. McGuire represents Polaris on the boards of directors of Acusphere, Remon, deCODE genetics, Microbia, MicroCHIPS, Transform Pharmaceuticals, and Wrenchead.
Mr. McGuire has been elected to the boards of directors at both the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council (the leading trade organization of Massachusetts biotech and pharmaceutical companies) and MassMedic (the leading trade organization of Massachusetts medical device manufacturers). He has also been on the boards of Akamai, Cubist Pharmaceuticals, and Aspect Medical Systems. Other Board seats include: the Thayer School of Engineering, Dartmouth College; the Foster Center for Private Equity at the Amos Tuck School, Dartmouth College; and the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research.
Mr. McGuire holds an MBA from Harvard Business School, an MS in engineering from The Thayer School at Dartmouth College and a BS in physics and economics from Hobart College.
