Ted Tollner was hired on November 20, 2007 by head coach Mike Nolan as an offensive assistant.
Tollner last coached with the Detroit Lions under Steve Mariucci in 2005, serving for 11 weeks as offensive coordinator before Mariucci was let go. Tollner finished out the season as the tight ends coach. Prior to his time with the Lions, Tollner enjoyed a stint with the 49ers from 2002-2005, coaching quarterbacks for two seasons before he was promoted to offensive coordinator. Tollner began his NFL career in 1987 with the Buffalo Bills as a wide receivers coach. He left after the 1988 season to be offensive coordinator for the Chargers, a role he filled until 1991. Next up, Tollner served as the quarterbacks coach for the Los Angeles Rams from 1992 to 1993. Tollner then left the NFL to work in the college ranks from 1994 to 2001, in the capacity of head coach at San Diego State. |
