Tara Sorensen is vice president of development for National Geographic Television & Film's (NGT&F) Kids' Programming and Production group. Sorensen oversees program development and production for the kids' production unit, with the objective of delivering quality kids' entertainment with substance for children of all ages.
In less than three years the Los Angeles-based Kids' group has developed relationships with A-list creative talent. It is assembling a development slate that will deliver exciting, breakthrough programming that builds on the vast resources of the National Geographic Society and complements National Geographic's kids' offerings. These include a highly successful kids' magazine, home videos, an educational Web site, toy licensing, and book and school publishing. NGT&F's kids' group is forging relationships with studios and all major broadcast outlets in the United States and abroad where programming might appear. The group is also working with National Geographic's feature and giant screen film divisions to bring quality kids' productions to the big screen.
Sorensen joined NGT&F in May 2003 from Sony Pictures Television, where she was vice president, creative affairs, for Sony's Family Entertainment division. During her tenure with Sony, Sorensen was involved in the development of leading entertainment properties, including the Emmy-nominated "Jackie Chan Adventures" and "Men in Black" animated series for Kids' WB!; "Dragon Tales" for PBS; and "Stuart Little" and the Emmy Award-winning "Harold and the Purple Crayon" series for HBO Family. Prior to Sony Pictures Television, Sorensen served as manager of creative affairs for Columbia TriStar Television and manager of development for Nelvana Communications, where she played a critical role in the development of the Emmy Award-winning "Rolie Polie Olie" for the Disney Channel.
Sorensen received her B.A. in English from the University of Southern California. A New York native, she now resides in Los Angeles. |
