Suzanne Wallman is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Chicago office. As a member of the Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department, her practice involves all aspects of e-business, trademark, copyright and unfair competition litigation and counseling. She also has engaged in significant patent litigation and global IP transactions.
As a member of the Firm's e-Business Group, Suzanne focuses her practice on counseling clients on intellectual property issues in internet-related areas. She enforces rights related to domain name and trademark use and misuse on the internet and develops internet policing programs for clients to assist with detecting the misappropriation of trademarks in cyberspace. Suzanne also litigates domain name disputes before ICAAN and WIPO and cybersquatting issues under the federal Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act.
Suzanne frequently assists with the intellectual property aspects of corporate transactions, including financings, joint ventures and mergers and acquisitions. Her litigation experience includes counseling clients in the litigation, negotiation and settlement of domain name and internet-related issues. She has represented clients in trademark, unfair competition and patent suits in a broad range of industries in federal trial courts throughout the United States. Suzanne's experience also includes counseling clients on the selection of trademarks, rendering of availability and registrability opinions and prosecuting applications to register trademarks in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Suzanne has significant international experience including global licensing, maintaining international trademark portfolios and supervising prosecution and maintenance in other countries. Suzanne has represented clients in diverse fields including financial service providers, toy manufacturers, designers, clothing manufacturers and retailers, software developers, and health care and medical product providers.
Suzanne also has significant experience in appellate work, particularly in the Federal, Second and Seventh Circuit. As a law student, she externed for the Honorable Ilana Rovner of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
Prior to law school, Suzanne completed a management training program and served as an officer of a major financial institution. At Northwestern University School of Law, she was an associate editor of the Northwestern Journal of International Law and Business. Suzanne is a member of the bars of the state of Illinois, the U.S. District of Illinois and the Federal, Second and Seventh Circuit.
