Susan Plonkey was named Vice President, Customer Service in February 2005. In this role, she is responsible for improving customer service and customer relationships and developing new marketing opportunities. She oversees Retail Marketing, Business Mail Acceptance, the Business Service Network, Market Development, Customer Relationship Management, Licensing Strategies, and Customer and Industry Marketing. Customer and Industry Marketing includes the National Postal Forum (NPF), Postal Customer Councils (PCCs), tradeshows and promotions, and the Mailers Technical Advisory Committee (MTAC).
While maintaining her responsibility for customer liaison activities for the PCCs, NPF and MTAC, Plonkey also focuses on innovative marketing strategies to help sustain the Postal Service’s ability to serve its customers and compete in a technology-driven environment.
As manager of the Fort Worth District from 2003-2005, Plonkey oversaw retail and delivery operations in 416 Post Offices in Northwest Texas, covering more than 114,000 square miles and serving more than 1 million possible deliveries, as well as the operation of three processing and distribution facilities.
Plonkey served as manager, processing and distribution, Austin, TX. In 1998, she was selected as the first female postmaster of Dallas, TX, the ninth largest Post Office in the United States. Plonkey has been with the Postal Service for 27 years and also served as field director, marketing and communications in Oklahoma City, postmaster of Oklahoma City and several other positions in retail and customer service operations.
Plonkey has received numerous national Postal honors and awards including the Board of Governors Award in 2006 and the Vice President’s Award from Postmaster General Jack Potter in 2003. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Kansas State University and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Central Oklahoma.
