Experience:
Susan Charles represents her clients in environmental litigation, compliance, and transactional matters. Her litigation work includes the defense of state and federal enforcement actions, citizen suits, statutory cleanup actions, and private actions for cleanup costs.
Sue also defends individual and class action claims for personal injuries and property damage and has represented policy holders in environmental coverage litigation seeking hundreds of millions of dollars in remediation costs for various manufacturing facilities across the United States. Her transactional work includes advising clients in connection with purchases, sales, and financings of business assets and equity and the evaluation of a company’s regulatory compliance and potential environmental liabilities.
Sue’s environmental compliance work involves counseling clients on various issues arising under the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA, and other federal, state and local laws. Her activities in this area include land contamination and Brownfields issues; waste materials management; permitting, operational changes and facility expansion; and construction, development, and siting of new facilities.
