Susan P. Shipman is a Director in the Valuation & Financial Opinions Group. Her concentration is in real estate valuation and consulting. She has been an appraiser for 15 years and is licensed as a certified general real estate appraiser in Michigan. In addition, she has earned the right to use the MAI designation awarded by the Appraisal Institute. Ms. Shipman s professional experience encompasses a variety of commercial, residential, and industrial engagements for numerous purposes, including financing, estate and gift taxation, purchase and sale advice, divorce proceedings, ad valorem taxation, condemnation, and insurance replacement. She also has considerable experience in feasibility and market studies, especially for residential, office, and self-storage development, and from that has naturally developed a specialization in appraising proposed construction projects. She is qualified to appraise a wide range of property types, including office, residential subdivision and condominium developments, apartments, industrial, manufactured housing communities, and self-storage. Her assignments have involved properties ranging in value from $500,000 to $70 million. Prior to joining our firm, Ms. Shipman was the owner and principal appraiser at Shipman & Associates, LLC, in Ann Arbor. Before that, she worked for regional appraisal firms and was Director of Administration for Hobbs + Black Architects. Ms. Shipman earned an MBA from The University of Michigan and a BFA from Florida Atlantic University. She has served on the Board of Directors of the Great Lakes Chapter of the Appraisal Institute since 2002 and served as its President in 2007. She has been selected twice to represent the Chapter on the Appraisal Institute s Leadership & Development Advisory Council. Ms. Shipman is also a member of Commercial Real Estate Women of Detroit (CREW-Detroit) and an active volunteer for several nonprofit organizations including the American Diabetes Association and the Ann Arbor Summer Festival. |
