The author of Letters from the Front Lines (available 9/11/06) and The Armament Tide - Rearming America , Stuart Platt was promoted early ahead of his peers, went on to become a Rear Admiral and complete a distinguished 31 year military career as a highly decorated Vietnam veteran. He has had an equally successful executive career, principally in the technology and defense sectors. Appointed by President Ronald Reagan as the Navy's first Competition Advocate General, Admiral Platt led an historic reform program improving the purchase process for ships, aircraft, and weapon systems.
Admiral Platt served as Deputy Commander of the Naval Sea Systems Command, responsible for acquiring surface ships and submarines during build-up of the 600 ship Navy. The Submarine Force Library Museum Association recently named him to the Cold War Leadership Hall of Fame. He was also a Presidential appointee to the Board of Governors of the US Merchant Marine Academy. Admiral Platt has an MS from William E.
