Steven Meyers is the founding principal of Meyers Nave. He is head of the firm's redevelopment and housing practice group and practices as a senior litigator in the writs and appeals litigation group. He has been the city attorney for four separate cities, including San Leandro, Windsor, Suisun City and, currently, Rancho Cordova. He has also served as general counsel to a number of special districts and redevelopment agencies. In addition to his successful work with a number of redevelopment projects, Steve has defended many cases challenging land use actions and environmental clearances by public entities. He has negotiated and documented complex real estate transactions for his public agency clients and advised hundreds of public agencies on numerous other matters.Steve was chairman of the executive committee of the State Bar Public Law Section and served as editor of the Public Law Journal. He served on the Legislation Committee of the City Attorneys' Department of the League of California Cities; was president of the Bay Area City Attorneys' Association and was a recipient of the John J. McCloy Fellowship in Urban Studies in 1984 from the United States Conference of Mayors and the government of the Federal Republic of Germany. Steve is a frequent contributor to publications such as the American Bar Association State and Local Government Newsletter and was a speaker at the World Jurist Conferences in Ireland, Australia and China. He has also presented and written on the recent Supreme Court decision in Kelo v. New London. He is immediate past president of the Bay Planning Coalition, an organization devoted to wise environmental and economic use of San Francisco Bay. Steve currently serves as a member of the International Steering Committee by the International Municipal Lawyers Association.Steve graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1969 cum laude and received his J.D. degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif. Following his graduation in 1973, Steve devoted his practice to public law. He is admitted to practice in state and federal courts as well as the United States Supreme Court. Steve is an avid hiker and mountaineer and enjoys flying and adventure travel. |
