W. Steven Burke is responsible for activities centering on governmental, policy, regulatory, ethical, societal and international issues. He has been an active participant in the national and international biotechnology communities since the mid-1980s, working as an advocate for attention to educational, public and societal issues.
Burke has served in several capacities for the Biotechnology Industry Organization, including a two-term stint as chair of the Council of Biotechnology Centers. Burke also serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of the Biotechnology Institute and as founding Chairman of the Board of the Institute of Forest Biotechnology.
Prior to joining the North Carolina Biotechnology Center in 1985, Burke taught Instructional Design at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina. He has an undergraduate degree in religion and literature from Duke University and a Master of Education in Instructional Design from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. |
