Steven Brower is a Shareholder and member of the Litigation Practice Group in the firm’s Orange County office. His practice emphasizes business insurance coverage, computer technology and intellectual property, although he regularly handles matters related to real estate and general business litigation.
Mr. Brower has handled all aspects of civil litigation from inception through conclusion, including arbitrations, complex settlements, trials and appeals in more than 10 states. Prior to joining Buchalter Nemer, Brower was a partner at Theodora Oringher Miller & Richman. He has represented both companies seeking insurance coverage (having collected over $50 million for clients) and he has also represented insurance companies (having written over 100 coverage opinions and successfully litigating bad faith cases.) In the area of intellectual property he regularly handles matters relating to copyright, trademark, trade dress and trade secrets, including obtaining and resisting injunctive relief.
Based, in part, on his experience as a mainframe computer programmer, he has represented many computer technology companies including Borland International, Oracle, Octel, Informix, Amdahl, AMS, Microsoft, MicroPro(Wordstar) and Parcom. He was credited as being the first attorney to ever obtain a Preliminary Injunction in a civil case under 18 USC 1030 (Computer Fraud & Abuse Act).
Mr. Brower is also an arbitrator for CPR Institute for Dispute Resolution for which he has served as the arbitrator on domain name disputes (UDRP Proceedings). He has also acted as an arbitrator and mediator in various matters relating to computer software.
Mr. Brower is a member of the American Bar Association. He is currently the co-chair of the Intellectual Property Sub-Committee of the Insurance Coverage Committee of the Section of Litigation; co-Division Chair of the Computer & E-commerce Division of the Section on Science & Technology; and co-chair of the Intellectual Property Committee of the Section of Dispute Resolution.
