Steve Shulman joined Magellan in 2003 and currently serves as chairman and chief executive officer. He has executed a significant restructuring at Magellan managing the company through bankruptcy and reemergence as a public company. Steve is the former chairman, president and chief executive officer of Prudential Healthcare, Inc. While at Prudential, he engineered a major turnaround of the company and its subsequent sale to Aetna.
Prior to joining Prudential in 1997, Steve co-founded Value Health, Inc., a NYSE specialty managed care company which was comprised of Value Behavioral Health and ValueRx, among the largest managed behavioral health care and pharmacy benefit managers, respectively, at the time. He was a director Value Health and served as its president.
Most recently, Steve founded and served as chairman and chief executive officer of Internet HealthCare Group (IHCG), an early stage health care venture fund. Prior to that, he worked at CIGNA HealthPlan as president of its development company and as president of its East Central division, managing 11 HMOs. Steve started his career at Kaiser Permanente as director of medical economics.
Steve earned a Bachelor of Science degree in economics and a Master of Science degree in health services administration from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He also completed the Advanced Management program at Stanford University Graduate School of Business. Steve is a member of the board of directors of NDC, Digital Insurance, IHCG, and BenefitPoint. In addition, he is a former trustee of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America and the University of Hartford’s Art School. |
