Mr. Hoy’s business experience has focused on education, sales, and business operations. As a co-founder of Edutest, Inc. in 1996, he managed sales and marketing for the market leader in web-based K-12 testing and assessment. Steven understands the education marketplace and the needs of educators and administrators. Capitalizing on the start of the education standards movement, he acquired implementations in more than 50% of Virginia’s school districts and successfully launched the first and largest online practice testing in Virginia and Florida. He was also responsible for establishing and maintaining business development relationships critical to Edutest’s success. His leadership was instrumental in securing the acquisition of Edutest by Lightspan, Inc. in 2000. Following Edutest, Steven leveraged his educational expertise and success into executive and strategic sales management positions with Lightspan, Inc. and PLATO Learning, Inc. At Lightspan, he was responsible for negotiating and securing large contracts to further the development of field sales business in addition to developing and maintaining strong relationships at state education agencies. His efforts resulted in key state contracts with Florida, Michigan, New Mexico, and Colorado as well as being instrumental in securing district-wide contracts in some of the nation’s largest and most progressive school districts, e.g., Fairfax County, VA, Henrico County, VA, and Austin ISD (TX). Prior to co-founding Edutest, Steven held multiple financial roles in business. These included management positions in finance and business analysis in the banking and health care industries, which leveraged his certification as a CPA. Steven holds his B.S. degree in Business Administration from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. |
