Steven DeRuyter has more than 25 years of experience assisting clients in all aspects of corporate and transactional work, as well as banking and secured transactions. Steve has served as outside general counsel to a broad base of public and private companies including K-Tel International Inc., Midwest Wireless Holdings LLC, Milestone Hotel Investments Inc., Stockwalk Group Inc., Ramkota Companies, Hutchinson Telephone Company and Reigstad & Associates Inc. His counsel encompasses management of a full range of legal needs from start-up and public offerings to acquisitions and succession planning. He also has acted as counsel for special committees involving financial and medical matters. On behalf of long-term client Jefferson Lines Inc., Steve argued before the U.S. Supreme Court in a case involving sales tax imposed by the State of Oklahoma. Steve provides in-depth experience in the syndication of hotels and has secured investment funds for real estate clients seeking to acquire and operate commercial properties.
Steve has chaired the Creditor’s Rights, Bankruptcy and Distressed Business practice group. Over the past two decades, this group has been involved in many of the largest complex bankruptcy cases in Minnesota. Steve has served as lead or co-counsel in Chapter 11 business reorganizations for numerous clients such as Med General Inc., Stockwalk Group Inc., Standard Mill Limited Partnership and Hydro Power Inc.
